At times, when you browse around their blog posts, you might feel most often the information is overloaded.

This common predicament makes you go nowhere! You don’t know where to start and how to end.
That’s why I created this “Blogging beginner GUIDE” which will help almost the basics – from top to bottom.
So, without further ado!
Let’s start with the basics…[Don’t forget to check out my blogging course bonuses down-below]
Blogging Course For Beginners
Free Vs Premium
Did you know that many freelancers will charge you up to $600 for setting up a simple WordPress theme?
I could see many paid ads are floating around for similar services even on Google.
When you click over, you’d notice not many are there to provide their services for free. And the worst part is some even claim that you could start a blog today and earn money within a few days!
On the other side, some honest bloggers are still out there ready to share their blogging course for free. When it comes to blogging, there are a few important aspects of it; when, where, and how!
Blogging Course – Quit Blogging Before Take-Off!
Blogging is not for everyone, at the same time, blogging can be very productive until you ready to invest time, put effort, and not comprising your passion.
And these rules apply to all looming bloggers and queued bloggers, irrespective of their race, country, qualification, or writing skills.
Quitting too early! Don’t!
I’ve heard and seen on many forums that some people were claiming that they couldn’t continue their journey due to some reasons.
What made them think and conclude in this way in just a couple of months!
According to me, their foundation wasn’t right. Someone who might have misguided them saying Blogging is a business that will make them rich overnight. This isn’t true!
This is how most new bloggers give up continuing their money-making machine.
Blogging Course – You’re Not That!
I’m sure you are not that and want to be in that boat either. This simple Blogging setup guide ensures you will learn at max.
Additionally, I have added the best blogging tips, I mean you can start today without worrying any hiccups.
As always, plan yourself as to what step you need to do first. Without planning you’re not going anywhere.
On top of that, don’t always dig into Google looking for more information when you are in the initial stage of building a blog.
Your primary focus should be choosing a topic for your blog. You can have multiple topics.
There is no one out there to stop or control you. Just like me, you can cover a wide range of topics.
Choose a Topic For Your Blog [Blogging Course]
Before starting a blog, ensure you have dug enough and explored it. This is vital because after you set up your blog, you should not ponder over where to start and how to write about and which topic! This is very important.
Relax – think about what you’re at best. Even if you know a bit about it, you can improve your knowledge and skills as time goes on. You see, reading makes perfect.
Let’s say, for example, you play a lot of games online. Awesome, now you can come with a blog about gaming. Isn’t that easy for you!
OK! Let’s dig into your skills a bit more…I am sure you can come up with some great ideas here.
Are you a fan of collecting coins! There you go! You can segregate a blog into a wide range of topics such as 60s coin, 70s coin, 90s coin, and so forth.
With this topic, you can cover about current worth, how to find them, where to find them, coin names and it goes on and on.
You can do the same way for Photography, Computer hardware stuff, Recipe, Restaurant, Vacation blog, Lifestyle blog, Educational blog, Movie reviews, Toys, Electronic items, or you can cover all types of service industries you know about.
You see brain-storming is the best idea! Maybe a couple of beers will do. 🙂 Note down a list of topics, this ensures you don’t forget them. We all know what will happen after 2 hours!
In this way, you can explore different kinds of topics.
So, it’s time to explore yourself. Think about which topic is the best interest of you.
Blogging Course – Aim For Competitive Keywords & For Adsense
This is another misconception about high paying keywords. If you wonder which are high-paying keywords. Here we go!
Some folks say that you should create a blog for Google Adsense. Don’t ever do that. Some high paying keywords are hosting, health and fitness, etc.
Always keep in mind that if you are about to start a blog on health and fitness or a medical-related topic, I am sure you’re going to give up sooner or later.
The reason is that Google won’t rank your website pages just because you have some posts related to the medial industry. Even if that happened to be outstanding posts.
Why Google Won’t Rank Your Blog? Blogging Course!
This is because you have to have the authority to get more visibility. For example, sites like Healthline.com, www.webmd.com, Medicinenet.com, etc – have high page and domain authority.
These websites are already popular which have been in the business for so long. Google rank pages that have more backlinks. Not to forget .com or .edu domain as well.
Let’s say, for example, you’re writing a post about “Diarrhea treatment”. Many websites usually will have multiple posts for the same keyword.
Can you compete with them! I don’t think so!
These websites are highly established and in the business for many years and also have business credibility of more than 10-15 years.
And remember that those articles were written by some medical experts!
On the other hand, you are like a newborn baby writing for the same!
Now, who has more credibility between these two? Obviously, Google knows you’re not, hence you’re out.
So if you’re aiming for it, you’ll be crushed and never seen for good.
Cover General Topics
As I outlined above, start with general topics and write about them. Don’t get upset, no one is perfect in this world.
Can you finger at anyone saying he/she is perfect? Absolutely not. So don’t worry about writing blog posts. As long as you have an idea of a particular topic, you’re ready to go!!!
All you need is to update your knowledge often. And when you start writing articles for your blog, come up with your own version. This is it.
You can go around and spend time on reading articles related to your niche/topics.
This way, you can learn more and write better about what you always wanted to.
Best Blogging Platform – Blogging Course
Choosing a platform is very important for your online business.
By choosing the wrong platform, you create unwanted issues as when your blog starts to get some momentum.
When I was new to blogging – back in the year 2013, I was told to create a free blog through blogger.com [Blogspot – Google owned]. I created around 15 blog posts and it was all good and fine.
Wherein I hadn’t had the opportunity to take my blog to the next level. Due to some reasons, my blog was disabled. It was a small blog with a few pages on it though I didn’t regret Google taking down my blog.
Because I created that blog purely for fun and didn’t bother me much. Later I was told Blogspot based blog is not recommended for serious bloggers or entrepreneurs.
So don’t make mistake like me – starting a blog on a free hosting platform like WordPress.org, Wix, Constant Contact Web Builder, Gator, Drupal, Joomla, WordPress.com, Medium, Weebly, Squarespace, Typepad, Blogger, Tumblr, Ghost, etc.
These free platforms for only those who want to create a blog for personal things and not for a business.
If you create your blog thinking to save some money, you’d end up being kicked out without prior notice [ Even on WordPress free blog – affiliate links are not allowed].
However, you can promote affiliate products on certain free hosting platforms like Wix. Even though I highly advise you to avoid free hosting blogs at any cost.
So what’s the solution?
…the solution is to go with a self-hosted WordPress blog. This is the solution once for all.
With a self-hosted WordPress blog, you can do anything you want. It’s yours and no one can block you or take you down. With a self-hosted blog, you own your content for good.
How To Start a WordPress Blog?
I highly recommend WordPress self-hosted blog for anyone who’s planning to start.
And as being an open-source software/platform, you can run your business from a small blog to a business-based blog.
What I love about WordPress platform is that I can pretty much do anything I want to!
With a WordPress self-hosted blog, you can do a wide range of activities such as:
- You can upload any number of free templates
- Thousands of software developers available to get support
- Hundreds of free plugins for your site
- Create landing pages using a plugin
- Ready-made SEO plugins
- Block spammers using free plugins
- Customizing your entire site with plugins, and much more
Unlike other platforms, WordPress is a beginner-friendly platform where you can start from scratch without the need for HTML or CSS coding knowledge.
I am neither a coder nor have knowledge of coding stuff. This coding stuff is absolutely not for me.
On the WordPress platform, you can have everything you want from free templates, plugins for themes, software for submitting sitemaps for Google, plugins for SEO, plugins for building pages, and whatnot.
That’s why I love WordPress. You’ll love that too.
Not only that, but there are also hundreds of video tutorials available for WordPress bloggers on YouTube. So, whenever you get stuck in the process of building your websites, those online tutorials come in handy for every step of the way.
Hence, you must always start on the WordPress platform so you can run your business smoothly.
WordPress.com or WordPress.org
If you’re a beginner to blogging, choosing between WordPress.com and Org can be very daunting. I have a few personal blogs hosted on WordPress.com.
There’s no complication in signing up either of these platforms but indirectly they can create some unpleasantness.
I mean purchasing a domain, integration, and paying for hosting, etc.
Besides, the cost of WordPress hosting is slightly higher than hosting from outside.
On top of it all, when you want to move your blog to your preferred hosting provider, you might have to do some technical tasks.
Why you wanna take the risk yourself?
Hence, start with a web-hosting company and integrate the WordPress site straight from the control panel.
In this way, you can avoid paying too much money for hosting.
Which Are The Best Hosting Providers?
Hosting is an indispensable ingredient in terms of managing your blog successfully.
Due to the increase of websites in this age, there is no scarcity of hosting providers. There are hundreds of hosting providers and you can find one very easily, too.
However, not all hosting companies are good. The reason is some hosting providers may claim that they can offer a 99% uptime guarantee with maximum page speed.
As a matter of fact, most hosting providers don’t keep up their promises.
When it comes to rank high on Google, page speed, and accessibility of your site are also plays an important role.
When someone visits from Google, the page must load quickly. If the page found an error or page was not loaded then you’ll lose your customers or visitors for good.
According to the survey, the maximum time-frame the visitors wait on your site is about 7 seconds. If your page was not loaded faster. They’re gone forever.
That’s why your website page speed is very important. Having the best page speed helps boost your ranking to a certain extent.
That’s why you have to choose the best hosting provider wisely so you can avoid running into trouble.
There are some established, reputed, well-known hosting providers out there such as Hostgator, Bluehost, etc.
Both are good in terms of customer support, server uptime guarantee, and page loads.
Yet I personally recommend Bluehost as it has been proposed by 1000s of top website owners in the world.
So, without a second thought, start your hosting with Bluehost. And the best thing about Bluehost is that the hosting fee is very affordable for anyone.
If you are reading this far, I am sure you’d want to start your online business or a business blog right now. If so, I have some great bonuses for you.
To know more, please keep reading until the last word.
OK! Now let’s move on to WordPress hosting and domain creation.
Name Your Business Blog
How To Choose a Best Domain For Your Blog?
Determining a name for your blog is very important. This will help you in the long run. As always choose a common domain, and not with your personal name.
One thing I learned during my journey is that naming a blog on our personal name is not a good idea.
Although, you might have seen some blogs are running under their name. And they may have some quality content writers and crowd-pulling content though.
If you have already established your presence online then there is no problem in registering a domain on your name. But here the scenario is very different for you.
Yeah! You’re just starting out. So if you ask me, creating a domain on your name is not the best idea.
Let’s say for example that you have a blog on your name like www.yourname.com. Once your blog starts to get some traffic from Google, you may miss the direct visitors.
The reason is most people won’t be able to remember your name. But when you have a common name like www.spotthetreasure.com, people can easily recognize it as being common in English.
Another reason could be that most readers won’t be able to remember your blog name, just in case if they want to come back directly typing your domain.
But having a common domain helps, even for non-English speaking customers, too.
Secondly, choose a domain that has something related to what you do! Come up with the best domain – most importantly a short name.
Don’t create a domain name like…
You see, this domain seems like a never-ending story. No surprise here, I have seen though. Don’t make this mistake.
One thing you must note that when people want to view your website on a mobile, they won’t feel like typing a long domain, at times, even on a desktop.
Moreover, a long domain seems like spammy too. So, instead of trying to trick readers or search engines, come up with a short and easily noticeable domain/keyword.
Finally, Don’t ever choose an extension such as .org, .info,.Biz, etc.
You see, when modern readers see this, you don’t get much traction for it. Hence, always choose a domain ending with .com extension only.
Also, don’t register a domain ending with a country-based web address. Some common domain extensions are .in, .pk, .Au,.UK, etc.
When people first land on your site, they come to the conclusion that your content focused on a certain country and not for international readers. I’ve sensed in this way! Did you!
So, on the safer side, register a domain with a short keyword ending with the .com extension.
Integrate WordPress Via Hosting Provider
How To Start a WordPress Blog On Bluehost?
Great! Believing that you’re going to host your blog using Bluehost, there are only a few simple steps that you need to follow.
Head over to the Bluehost website and register a domain first. And then choose a shared-hosting as it won’t cost much to start.
Bluehost charges $3/month with a maximum uptime guaranteed that included unlimited visitors.
Once you registered, you’ll be provided a username and password so you can log in to your hosting Control Panel.
Browse around all the applications to gain some knowledge about them.
Then you’ll notice a software called “Fantastico App”. This is the application that you need to click on to launch your WordPress blog.
Please watch this basic Blogging course video now. If you are not sure about how to do it then I have got a bonus for you.
Before accessing my bonus, watch the below WordPress tutorial video.
What Step do You Need To Do After Launching a WordPress Blog?
After you installed a WordPress site through your hosting CP account, you’ll be provided a WordPress admin link with a username and password.
It’ll look like this: https://yourwebsite.com/admin
Login into your WordPress blog and create pages for your website.
You can open in a new tab by typing your web address in the browser. Now, your WordPress site appears with a default WordPress template. The default template won’t look any good for sure.
To change the template of your WordPress blog, find the best SEO friendly WordPress theme in Google. If you want a premium template, contact me I can give you for a good price or for free.
Genesis theme is one of the top recommended themes and they have been offering services to hundreds of bloggers.
The actual theme cost is between $49 -$100 and I give you a massive discount for just $20.
Alternatively, you can find a lot of good free themes for your blog by clicking the below link.
You can upload any number of themes via WordPress control panel. Upload 5 best themes so that you can later view them one by one using “PREVIEW MODE” within the dashboard.
Once you decide to use a particular theme, update the title, and description of your blog clicking “Customize option”.
If you want to use a logo for your site then hide your site title and description which is not required. You can do that within your template section.
To create a good logo for your blog, you can use some online free logo tools or providers. But yes, you might need to pay some before downloading it, but why pay!
Instead of paying for a logo, you can use a SNIPPING TOOL [if you’re using a Windows machine] to capture or screenshot it.
And then update it on your website. If you need any help, let me know in the below comment section.
How To Create Pages For WordPress Blog?
The blog has two options such as Pages and Posts. The pages are about basic information and the usage of it.
For example, in the page section, you need to create an individual page such as About me, Earning disclaimer, Terms and condition, Contact page, etc.
In the About me page, you write about who you are, what your skills are, and also write something about your service. This is it.
Write something about what you can offer for the readers. From your name, qualification, experience, expertise in the fields to hobbies.
Similarly, create pages for other areas as well. You can use ready-made templates for earning disclaimer, terms &condition, and other important pages.
This is it. Now you have created pages for your website. And then the post section is important. This is where you share your articles with your readers.
But how to write! I’ll come to that in a moment.
What Are The Other Basic Setup In WordPress?
You can either do this setup first before creating pages or vice versa. Now, you need to do some basic setup within your WordPress control panel.
Do small changes like add your profile and other vital changes one by one. You can do that by clicking from a dashboard link to the bottom.
You’re going to do once in a lifetime so take your time to do changes for your brand new WordPress website.
Once you start publishing your articles on your blog, you can later add widgets and banners on the sidebar. Until then let that be as default.
Don’t know how to add advertising banners and other widgets, let me know in the comment section.
Which Plugins Are Most Recommended For a Blog?
The best thing I love about WordPress platform is the ability to use third-party plugins.
It’s a piece of software that allows our website to customize the way we want. You can download plugins within the WordPress marketplace or from outside.
What most new bloggers do is that they upload 100s of unnecessary plugins. Don’t do it.
You only need to upload them only if necessary. Adding too many plugins won’t help your server.
If you put so much load on your hosting site then your page won’t get up as quickly as possible. You see, page loading is very important for visitors and SEO.
So, don’t upload more than 10 plugins. You must follow this very strictly. If your website hosted on a dedicated or VIP server then there is no issue in uploading more plugins.
As long as your website hosted on shared hosting, ensure you keep the minimum, this way your website loads faster.
The Plugins Required For a Blog [For a Shared Hosting]
- Yoast Plugin – For SEO
- WordPress Spam blocker [Akismet Anti-SpamSettings ]
- Contact form plugin
- WP Fastest Cache
- Table of Content
- Image Compressor
- WordPress Editor [TinyMCE Advanced]
- Social sharing plugin [if your them don’t have that option]
These are the plugins you may need to activate for your blog. Still, you can upload more plugins according to your needs. But keeping plugin numbers less allows your website to load faster.
The more plugin you upload the more error you start to get in the Google webmaster tool so don’t complicate yourself.
Not sure, what is the Google webmaster tool? I’ve already covered that down below…so keep reading.
How To Write Your First Blog Post?
Writing your first blog post can be very puzzlement and make you feel somewhat like you investing millions of dollars in the business. Don’t worry, This feeling has occurred for me and it will for everyone.
Your primary focus is to find your competitors. Spend about 1-3 days going through their pages. To get an idea from their blog, read those articles.
I am sure you might get some idea of what their primary keywords, titles, and topics are.
For example, let’s say you want to write an article on a mobile hack. You see, the term Mobile hack is very generic.
But when you dig into that keyword you get some idea about what to focus and how to write.
To make things easier, you can use either a Google keyword planner or bing. It’s up to you.
The rich bloggers always go with a premium keyword tool like the Kfinder tool and it is wonderful software to identify the best keywords and competition.
This way, you can write and rank pages quickly. However, they cost a lot of money.
So, for a beginner, I recommend Google keyword planner is a way to go.
You can choose multiple countries there. Enter your keyword to see which one is competitive and have low-searched volume.
Always choose low volume keywords so that you can rank higher in the search engines quickly. If you write articles on those competitive keywords, you’re not going to rank quickly.
Because to get the higher ranking you must have both domain and page authority. So, make sure you are not targeting keywords that are high in the competition.
Submitting Your Blog To Search Engines
After creating your blog, it’s time to submit your domain in the search engines so they can crawl your site. This is a very important part.
You see, nobody will be able to know your site until you show it to the world.
By submitting to search engines, you’re allowing them to identify your website.
At the same time, don’t submit your domain when you don’t have any articles.
Write about 10 good articles first before submitting your website. Once you submitted, keep adding new articles on your blog every 2 days.
The reason is Google love blog that updating new content regularly.
It’s like a good shop owner usually gets more business when he adds fresh and verities of items. The same formula applies to search engines as well.
Once you start getting the traffic you can then publish articles once in a week.
You can submit your website for free using this free search engine submitter. Add your website and click submit. You’re done.
Search Engine Verification
Verifying your blog is very important as this lets search engines know you’re the owner of the site.
Submitting and verifying your site is not a big thing to do. All you need is to create an account in the Google webmaster tool and then submit your site.
You’ll be prompted to verify your blog so you can add HTML codes. Just copy the codes and paste it in the Yoast “Site verification section” and update.
And then click on verify it in the Google webmaster tool. In the same way, you’ve to do for other top search engines like Bing, Yandex, and Baidu. You’re done!
Adding Blog Sitemaps to Google
In the previous step, you submitted your website in the search engines.
This time, you may want to submit your site pages using webmaster tools.
Remember, crawling and indexing are different. Submitting your sitemap helps search engines to index individual articles.
All you need is to visit the Google search engine to create an account using Gmail. In the same way, you can do it for Bing and Yahoo.
Access here to submit your site map through the Google webmaster tool.
You need to do the same for Bing search engines – Bing webmaster tool
[No need to submit for Yahoo individually after you submitted through Bing].
Replace Your domain and update sitemap in the webmaster tools
The sitemap links can be found in your Yoast WordPress plugin. Copy those links and submit them in the webmaster tools. And login back after 24-48 hours to see if any error is showing.
It has to show “Success”. If any errors found then I’m sure you had done something wrong. Identify the issue and sort it out.
How Long A Website Take To Get Traffic From Google?
Awesome! You’ve done a great job – created a blog, published articles, and submitted to Google site map.
Now the question is about TRAFFIC!
Who doesn’t want to get traffic from Google!
This is the most common question being asked by many bloggers as to how long will it take to get traffic from Google and other search engines.
The truth is, there is nothing in our hands. But one thing I can sure that, it usually takes 3-6 months to see some traffic coming from Google. This is a testing period.
Firstly, Google needs to index your pages and then it’ll rank pages to send traffic.
During this period, you might need to publish articles not worrying about getting traffic.
Meanwhile, you can do some social marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Quora, Instagram to get referral/direct traffic.
However, to get traffic from Google and others, there is no way you can shorten the time.
Why Google Take Long To Rank Articles?
The answer to your question is very simple. To determine your blog quality, they need two things from you.
First, domain authority and the second thing is your content.
Let’s say, for example, you have a brick and mortar business…
In order to get customers, you need to do marketing so customers come from referrals, banner ads, word of mouth, etc.
However, to get organic traffic, you must establish your site among the people like how you are and your product quality as well as company age. This way, people trust you.
The same rules apply here. Google first sends impressions and then a few visitors here and there.
During this period, Google test your website to know how visitors are responding such as reading time, bounce rate, and other SEO variables.
If all works great then Google will start pushing your pages up in the rank gradually.
In this way, you start to get traffic as when the pages move from 10th page to 3rd to 2nd to 1st page of the Google ranking.
On the other side, if people don’t spend time on your site – not reading your articles with a high bounce rate then you’ve got a problem here.
This signals Google and other search engines that your site’s content, page linking, and other variables are not good enough for their visitors.
This way, your site will be forced to rank down and down. As a result of this, no ranking and visitors. This is it.
How To Make Your Blog Popular? Black-hat or White-hat!
Please remember, some companies promise to offer you quality back-links. For which you may need to pay something. Don’t purchase backlinks from any service providers.
Mind it, those days are gone and buried. Google is so advanced in knowing how you got backlinks.
I don’ know whether you know this or not! The organic backlinks help boost your page ranking faster but they have to come naturally.
Always aim for readers not for search engines, in the sense write for people and not for machine.
Google doesn’t care how good you’re at English, fluency rate, or even don’t care about your background.
As long as your articles have some value, Google ranks you. Don’t copy articles from other websites. Don’t get your blog or website banned doing plagiarism.
If you have a plan for the long term then keep learning. In order to rank and get loads of visitors, write some useful content, this way Google ranks you better and more days to come.
